Inspections

The first step to creating a computer model of a vehicle, product, interior, roadway, or any other physical item is to take a look at the subject. We can work from photographs, diagrams, scans, or any other data that you are able to provide if it will not be possible for us to personally inspect your subject; however, keep in mind that our potential output may be limited if we are not able to inspect the subject ourselves.

If your subject is available for our inspection, contact us to request a quote and arrange a date and time. Depending on the subject and the type of diagram, model, or animation you require, we will select the appropriate means of data collection (see our methods below). After the inspection, we can hold the data until further notice from you, or begin work on the final product as soon as possible.

Exemplars

Threespace Imaging will handle the acquisition of exemplar vehicles or products if you'd like us to do so. There may be fees associated with the rental or purchase of an exemplar, and your approval will be required before any payment is made.

Photogrammetry

Whether working from your provided photographs or our own, we can conduct a photogrammetric reconstruction of 3D data, typically with a high degree of accuracy. In most cases, several photographs will be required. In special cases, it may be possible to obtain limited information from a single photo. Photogrammetry is generally the preferred method of data collection because it allows for a timely inspection, a verifiable foundation for the result, and is suitable for use on almost any subject, anywhere.

Structured Light Scanning

For certain subjects, we can produce highly accurate, highly detailed models through the use of structured light scanning technologies. Soft or organic subjects such as fabrics, humans, animals, and plants (and any similar shapes) are ideal candidates for this process. Unlike traditional laser scanning, our technology does not simply produce a colored point cloud. Our final product is a solid, textured mesh which is suitable for import into any 3D modeling package or ready to be used in your animation.

Surveying and Other Methods

It may be advisable to use a surveying tool for certain situations, specifically large scenes. In such cases, a survey will be conducted and used as supporting data for the rest of the 3D reconstruction. Although this will require additional time, it is necessary in some situations to ensure that the resulting model is as accurate as possible. We can arrange for a licensed surveyor to conduct the survey at your request.

Scaled Diagrams

We can produce scaled CAD drawings of any subject matter. Varying levels of detail are available based on your needs. Options include black-and-white wireframe drawings from a top, front, or side view, all the way through orthographic or perspective renderings of a 3D model with dimensions attached. We'll build to suit you.

3D Modeling

Our speciality is 3D modeling. These aren't your run-of-the-mill visually appealing models you'll find for sale elsewhere on the web. These are models of your specific subject material, built with verifiable physical accuracy both in geometry and appearance. Photographs of your subject will typically be used to texture the model which has a two-fold benefit. First, it adds an extra level of realism - what you see on the model is what was observed either in your provided photographs or at the time of our inspection. Second, it allows for the display of any physical evidence which may have been present on your subject such as scratches and paint transfers.

Animation

We can incorporate our 3D models into an animation to help you make your mark. Whether you want to do a virtual walkthrough of a building, a fly-over of a scene, show the mechanics of a collision, the working of a machine, or visualize any other event, we can accommodate you. Threespace Imaging can even incorporate some physics, smoke, and fluids simulations. This provides an extra degree of realism while serving as a solid foundation for the animation. In it's final form, you will receive either standard-format video files which can play on any computer or mobile device or alternatively a DVD loaded with the animation ready to play in any DVD player.
